"Co-op has long been an integral part of my life. Both my Dad and my brothers worked for the Co-op, so from a very young age I came to appreciate our local Co-op.
Years later I had the opportunity to work at the Dauphin Co-op Home Centre, which was located where ACC is now. Unfortunately, during that time interest rates were very high, and many businesses were going through a tough time. Many had to make tough decisions, some had to close, and Dauphin Co-op Home Centre was one of them. Employees lost their jobs. Some were able to move to other departments, some moved away. I was one of the fortunate ones, I transferred to the Administration department as an Assistant to the General Manager, Al Merritt. In 1996, I transferred to the Gas Bar on 3rd Ave. N.E., where I quickly became Manager.
When the Gas Bar was built in 2013, all the staff moved to the new location. It was state-of-the art and WOW was that nice.
I work with the best team ever. Most of us have been working together for a very long time. Ernie Semchuk and I have been working together at the Gas Bar for 26 years this December 4.
When I think back about what it means to be part of the Co-op. It is a great place to work, provides opportunity and training for advancement. The Co-op supports and invests in surrounding communities and is very conscious of the footprint that it leaves.
This year I celebrate 43 years with Dauphin Co-op. I have served many customers over the years and now I get to serve their children and even their grandchildren. I would like to say “Thank You” to all the people who I have had the opportunity to work along side each and every day, It’s been a wonderful journey. Thanks" — Midge Sametz
