Over the past 80 years, Dauphin Co-op has seen many inspirational individuals come by sharing their ideas and goals on what they are doing in the community. Inspiration comes in many sizes. When 8-year-old, Ryder Rodriguez shared his story about the Beanies for Preemies Project — it melted everyone's hearts!
Ryder's mother, Rhonna, decided to make beanies for preemies and newborns in the hospital with left over yarn she came across when cleaning a closet. She planned on making 10, but Ryder hoped she would make 400. She told him that 400 would take a lot of yarn and would cost too much money.
Ryder asked her if she would make them if he raised the money and she said yes!
Ryder has surpassed his goal for 400 beanies and is donating any extra money raised to CancerCare Manitoba and the True North Foundation Youth Foundation.
"I want to help as many kids as I can. I want to give money to the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation and because I love hockey, I want to donate to the True North Youth Foundation as well. These charities know what I am doing and have sent letters to help me collect."

A huge THANK YOU to our community for coming out to support our Charity BBQ and to friends at local businesses — Kelleher Ford Dauphin, Strilkewski Contracting, Dean Cooley Chev Olds and Dauphin Home Hardware for their generous orders and donations. We were able to raise $767.40 at the BBQ. Ryder already had $300 raised. He and his family are thrilled that they will be able to donate over $500 each to the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg and Cancer Care Manitoba.
